Progress likely in release of Taseer, Gillani’s sons

PESHAWAR: Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim, member Taliban committee for peace talks, has said that progress in release of Shahbaz Taseer, Ali Haider Gillani and Prof. Ajmal was likely , however, one must refrain from controversial statements on the issue, ARY News reported Tuesday.

He said the meeting between the government and Taliban committees was likely in a day or two.

Prof. Ibrahim said the dialogue process was moving towards restoration and all impediments were gradually being removed.

He hoped the issues including release of Taliban prisoners would soon be resolved.

“The situation will come to surface after a meeting between both the sides,” he added.

On the other side, Federal Information Minister Pervez Rashid claimed that the government and the army were on the same page on peace talks.

He said those trying to hamper peace talks process will not succeed.

Ali Haider Gilani, son of ex-prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, was kidnapped in an attack in his constituency in Multan, in the run-up to the May 2013 general elections. Shahbaz Taseer, son of the slain former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, was abducted while on his way to work, in the Gulberg area of Lahore on April 27, 2011.
