Five more children die of starvation in Thar; death toll crosses 200

TOP NEWS

MITHI: The death toll of children in drought-hit Tharparkar has crossed 200 as another five children perished in the district, ARY News reported Monday.

Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has paid four visits to Tharparkar since the calamity surfaced, but the number of deaths is still relentless. The cause of deaths of children is said to be starvation and lack of provision of medical care to the affected people. The latest deaths are reported in the Mithi town, where fair distribution of relief goods and lack of medical facilities are a major concern.

In addition to the miseries of Thar people, shortage of paramedical staff at Mithi Hospital could not be addressed by the provincial authorities.

Doctors and medicines couldn’t be dispatched to far-off areas, stirring migration of local people to other districts and urban areas of the province.
