KARACHI: Cricketers Javed Miandad and Shahid Afridi have amicably agreed to bury the hatchet and reconcile with each other.
They have also agreed to withdraw the allegations which they had recently hurled at each other. The reconciliation took place after which both offered sweet meats to each other.
Ina video message, Miandad said that Afridi is like his younger brother and they should move on now. He said that he retracts his words which may have hurt him personally.
On the other hand Afridi said that he had deep respect for and never said that Miandad should apologise to him, and it was enough that Miandad had taken his words back.
The move was expected as several senior cricketers including Wasim Akram and even Imran Khan had reportedly played a role in the reconciliation. Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan, member of the Standing Committee on Sports, had also played a role in it.
AFRIDI APPRECIATES SETTLEMENT
Shahid Afridi, while speaking to ARY News said that he was satisfied that they had resolved the differences out of court, and that the situation had not been taken to point of no return.
He said that Miandad was undoubtedly a cricketing legend and he had deep respect for him. However, he said that last few days were tough for him as the accusations had hurt him and his family. He said that he had never refrained anyone to criticise his cricketing performance but no one should use hurl personal accusations.
He thanked Miandad for withdrawing the allegations against him and said it would spoil the sanctity of the game. He also thanked his fans and others who had supported him in this regard.
He also said that the incident had also sent a negative image to the outside world. He admitted that several players including Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Rashid Altaf and Mushtaq Ahmed had spoken to him to resolve the matter.
NOT BEGGING FOR A FAREWELL MATCH
Answering a question, Afridi rubbished rumours that he neither needed nor begged for a farewell match.
“I just expressed my desire to play a match in Dubai or anywhere else and bid a final goodbye to people of Pakistan but if board is not ready, it is not an issue,” said Afridi.
