The investigation officer said that 24 out of the 44 suspects have been identified by eyewitnesses, while they have also confessed during interrogation. The presiding judge ordered the challan to be presented within 14 days.

Yesterday, eyewitnesses identified around 26 suspect attackers belonging to the MQM after they were paraded for identification after being presented before a judicial magistrate.

Among those sent to prison was MQM leader Kanwar Naveed Jamil, the former nazim of Hyderabad who won the by-election for PS-106 from Azizabad. “I am with the policies of Farooq Sattar,” he said. However, he remained silent when asked whether he supported the policies of the MQM secretariat in London.

The suspected members are accused of violence and anarchy on 22nd August which includes attacking policeman and ransacking the office of ARY News, after listening to a provocative and inflammatory speech by the MQM chief.

Furthermore, the Rangers handed over six other members to the Police for facilitating the attack on ARY News office. They were identified as Naveed, Adeel, Asif, Masroor, Javed and Niaz Ahmed and have reportedly confessed to the attack.

Director-General Rangers Sindh Maj-Gen. Bilal Akbar has earlier stated that the attack was a pre-planned and coordinated attack, and was carried out by the unit and sector incharge of the MQM, who were facilitated by other members to hide in a nearby bank.
