ISLAMABAD: The opposition benches vehemently criticized the Protection of Pakistan Bill on Friday, when the government tabled the disputed piece of legislation in the Senate, ARY News reports.

The opposition benches with noisy disapproval received the bill, which was tabled by Senator Zahid Hamid.

Pakistan People's Party's Senator Raza Rabbani termed the bill a draconian law and advised the government to amend the legislation. Senator Tahir Mashhadi of MQM said the bill will hit the fundamental human rights.

Awami National Party's Haji Adeel proposed formation of a house committee to review the bill. The bill later referred to the concerned standing committee of the house.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a recent meeting with former president Asif Ali Zardari had also discussed the Protection of Pakistan Bill which was approved with majority vote in the National Assembly.
